Over the weekend I tasted Nashik based winery - Virgil Hill's Merlot. The smoothness and the way it sits on your palate took me away. The wine is half bodied and leaves traces of spices, raspberry and mature aroma with every sip.

I was hesitant to pick this brand, as it's new and hardly any reviews are available. The reason I bought it is that it was on offer buy-1, get-1. But it turned out to be a wonderful decision. I used a decanter & let it sit for 2 hours, later served it at 16-18 degree celsius. Result was amazing.

I will recommend this wine if you get your hands on it. My wine was 2021 batch. I have heard that their vintage collection of 2018 is even better, so watch out. In coming years, this new brand will definitely give tough competition to market leaders like Sula, Fratelli and SOMA. I will look forward to visiting their winery in Nashik and will write a separate blog when I do.

You can savour the Virgin hills -merlot with red meat, fish curry or laziz kebabs.
